Charting

Let's begin by sharing ideas for blogs to get a map going for the site. Come up with a list of topics/issues you'd like to (eventually) create posts about and put the list up here.

Once we have a list of topics we are invested in writing about, we'll develop categories to tag our posts under and begin posting.

About This Blog

Teaching is a complex profession that, for many of us, starts as a role and overflows to become a definition of self. The discourse about teaching and its affects on us as individuals can be rich.

However, when teachers get together, they often traverse well-trodden paths of conversation; they talk about their students, they complain about the "politics" of their departments, and they commiserate about grading.

This blog exists to encourage new lines of communication about teaching (and reflections that extend to the way teaching overflows into our lives). The goals are for posters to offer analyses, narratives, personal reflections, etc. that are productive and insightful. Therefore, posting a familiar rant about the aforementioned teaching issues would not find its place on this blog. Instead, consider critically inspecting issues to create change or providing introspection on your personal experiences to spark discussion. Approach teaching issues (whether nation-wide, department-specific, or even personal-experience-based ones) with the goal to offer something new and thought-provoking for others.

We may all have "teaching" in common, but that does not mean the blog is limited to issues directly relating to teaching. If you have an intriguing idea for a post that this audience would benefit from, write it!
